Season 2: Episode 12: Kevin and Anthony

I just got done reading some of the comments on this show, which I viewed last week.  http://boards.bravotv.com/index.php?showtopic=175015. I’m always amazed at how much intolerance there still is in the world, and how anybody “different” faces persecution. It’s all there on this board, with a bunch of rants about Patti fixing up a gay guy, and the show’s portrayal of their growing relationship. It’s just another way people find to not get along and stir up controversy, and it makes me crazy.

Speaking of crazy, Anthony didn’t win any favor with me, when he pulled that stunt about convincing Brie he was “broke.” What a jerk, and he gave Nevada a bad name in the process. With that hair and that attitude, he’ll never find true love. What do you think?

Season 2: Episode 1: Brett and David

For some strange reason, this show is fascinating to me. I think Patti is a hoot, and she really does seem to read people well. I’m DVRing the reruns, so I’m a little behind on the episodes, but each one seems to be a little bit crazier than the last one. The last episode I saw yesterday was the Season 2 opening episode, which featured David Golshan, one of the most arrogant clients Patti has had. What a total jerk! All he could do was talk about how “hot” he was, which he wasn’t at all. What kind of a jerk thinks a Corvette is hot? My take on this TV “celebrity” is that he’s got “short man complex,” and has to make up for what he lacks in stature by being a total jackass.

I felt sorry for the girl he picked to go out with, even though he did seem to relax and be fairly decent during the date. I can see why he hasn’t found love, and I doubt he ever will. What do you think?

Gordon Ramsay’s The F Word

I know that BBC America runs this show in real time, but I’ve been watching the reruns that run during the afternoon in the US, and I’ve become hooked on this show. I know Ramsay is the kind of chef that you either love or hate, but somehow, even though he’s so rough on his staff, he has some kind of charm about him.

I actually hate the part about raising animals so his children can “see” where their food comes from. I swear, he’s going to wound them for life, letthing them get close to the animals and then seeing them on the dinner table. It makes me queasy, and I’m not a kid!

I love the “contributors” he brings in to investigate things like what’s in sausage, and things like that, and I like the restaurant critic, too. The episode where he went down in the sewer and looked at waste cooking fat was too gross!

2007 – Episode 11

I loved this episode, especially Gordon’s Celebrity Cookbook Amnesty progrm. I wonder how many people actually turned in books, that would have been really nice to know. I also think he really has it in for “celebrity” chefs, and yet, that’s exactly what he is, so what’s his problem? I saw him promoting his own cookbook on Rachael Ray’s show, so what makes him any different?

I like how he’s trying to get more “real” people to cook, and I didn’t really realize there are so many people in England that don’t cook.

2007 – Episode 12

Well, Gordon FINALLY won a challenge against a rival cook! It’s about time. Sometimes he expects people to “know” his food and be foodies, and that’s not the case with everyone. I think when he says he cooks “simple” food, it’s simple to a chef, but not everyone with a chef’s palate.

2007 – Episode 13

So what is the big deal with getting Gordon’s shirt off in every episode? They open with him changing in the hallway in this show, but I’ve noticed it on his other shows too, it seems they have to get a shot of him changing into his chef coat in just about every episode. Come on, he has beautiful eyes, but his chest isn’t THAT great!

This was the episode with the rabbit dish, and I found it revolting. I can’t eat rabbit, it reminds me too much of the pets I had when I was a kid (and I have eaten it in the past), but the crowning touch was showing him butchering it, and then the liver and kidney. I wouldn’t have paid for that dish either, it was way too over the top for me.

Hey, is it me, or is it really hard to understand some of the English accents on this show, too?

The Apollo Set Kathy Up!

I don’t know about you, but the most recent episode of “Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D-List” really bothered me. I thought Kathy’s experience at the Apollo was terrible, but I think they really set her up. First of all, who books Kathy Griffin for a “family” amateur show? Were they on crack? Everyone knows she is bawdy at best, and not the act for a family show. They think she’s going to “modify” her material for her audience?

Next, she repeatedly asked about the kids in the dressing room, and no one on the staff really gave her a heads-up. In fact, they assured her the kids would be “gone” by the time she performed. I think the Apollo and its’ staff were way out of line; they treated her extremely harshly, and should apologize to Kathy rather than ban her.

The Apollo’s mission statement says in part, they “Advance emerging creative voices across cultural and artistic media.” Across means all types of talent, and Kathy sure fits into that category. I guess they don’t really adhere to their own mission, and I’m calling on them to formally apologize, since they were way out of line in throwing her out of the theater so rudely.
